>First Aid for Cavers (An introduction course)

This Course aims to introduce First Aid to the caver with emphasis on the immediate on-the-spot response.

  • The course is run over one day.
  • Caving equipment will not be supplied on the course.

Course Programme
The caver will be introduced to the following common injuries:

The not so serious:

  • Foreign bodies in eyes
  • Exhaustion
  • Dehydration
  • Wounds
    • Lacerations
    • Abrasions
    • Contusions
    • Minor bruises

The more serious:

  • Hypothermia
  • Sprains, dislocations
  • Fractures
    • neck and spine
    • long bones (limbs)
    • other bones
  • Shock
  • Cessation of Respiration
  • Cessation of Heart beat

Non-trauma problems:

  • Weils Disease
  • Diabetes
  • Asthma

The First aid kit and the Caver:

A discussion session

The Candidate
It is designed to suit all levels of caver though introduction is on a very basic level

The Qualification
There are no qualifications necessary for this course other than a basic interest.

The Training
This course is based on the Rescue Emergency Care Lifesaver course which represents the foundation level for Basic and Advanced First Aid.

The Equipment
There is no equipment necessary for this course

The Trainers
All trainers will be WEMT or REC Trainer level standard.

This course will be certificated by REC.
